In the blink of an eye, the importance of security and the safety measures available to help ensure public safety graduated from the experts’ arena to grab everyone’s concern.
ASIS has been referred to as the CES of security shows. From security robots to bomb dogs to drones, all aspects of the security industry were represented and just like recent headlines, the topic of national security was on the tip of everyone’s tongue.
Little did we know one of the deadliest mass shootings in modern history would happen just days later at the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas.

Just days before this tragic event and while VOTI DETECTION™ was exhibiting at ASIS, Rory Olson, President and CEO of our client VOTI, spoke with David Johnson, host of KRLD’s “CEO Spotlight”, about the latest developments in the security industry and shared how hotel security has increased across the globe. Specifically, Olson mentioned how hotels in foreign countries are utilizing scanners to detect potential threats in their guests’ luggage before it goes to their rooms.

The evolution of national security threats
The topic of security expands beyond the topics of mass shootings and terrorist threats. While security scanners and other physical security measures are taken to help minimize risks with those types of events, what is being done for the online community and personal information that lives there?
