Celebrating Veterans Day with VetFran Initiative

As November 11th champions another Veterans Day, we once again celebrate the growth of VetFran as well. This strategic initiative, founded by Dwyer Group and overseen by the International Franchise Association today, has evolved into one of the most successful business initiatives for our military veterans. For the past 14 years, VetFran has helped thousands of veterans from across the country enter the franchising industry.

As a PR agency for franchise companies and a strong promoter for VetFran, BizCom decided to dedicate this blog to VetFran and its meaningful results.

VetFran – A leading resource for veterans in business

Founded in 1991 by the late Don Dwyer, Sr., founder of Dwyer Group, and re-launched by the International Franchise Association (IFA) in 2001, VetFran is the leading resource for veterans and their spouses to enter franchising. It was created to provide financial incentives, training and mentoring to veterans as they transition to the civilian economy.

Through VetFran, returning veterans have an opportunity to educate themselves on the franchising industry and explore a wide range of franchise opportunities with the VetFran Toolkit. After learning about what is expected of the franchisor and as a franchisee, they can access a database of all participating VetFran companies and contact their brand of interest to look for incentives for veterans. The available resources and mentoring network has helped numerous veterans quickly transition from military life to the business world. And the mission continues.

With demonstrated teamwork and leadership skills, veterans show great potential in leading franchise business. According to the IFA, there are more than 66,000 veteran-owned franchise businesses in the U.S. This number continues to grow thanks to VetFran’s commitment to foster access to franchise opportunities for U.S. veterans.

Dwyer Group and its commitment to VetFran

When talking about veterans and franchising, what began as an entrepreneurial dream for the late Don Dwyer Sr. has grown into an incredible reality today. As the service brands for Dwyer Group led the way, now more than 600 franchisors also offer their best financial incentives to military veterans with an interest in franchising. The latest numbers show that VetFran has helped 203,890 veterans start a career in franchising and 5,608 veterans become franchise owners since 2001.

“At Dwyer Group, it is our top priority to help the U.S. veterans transition to the workforce with different opportunities across our brands,” said Dina Dwyer-Owens, co-chair of Dwyer Group. “That’s how we say thanks to those who have protected our nation, and enable them to continue to serve our communities with their dedication and demonstrated leadership.”

Dwyer Group, VetFran and BizCom Associates

As the PR agency for Dwyer Group, BizCom Associates also has been supporting the VetFran initiative for years. From supporting Dwyer Group’s initiatives to the VetFran goals of our other clients like Huddle House, Pinot’s Palette, UFood Grill, Edible Arrangements Inc., and more, BizCom is a strong advocate for offering support to our veterans.

“VetFran offers some of the most inspiring stories to share with the media, with future franchise prospects, with politicians, and with the public at-large,” said Monica Feid, vice president of BizCom. “I am always inspired when talking with veterans and writing about their successful transition to the business world. There is a patriotism that comes with that kind of news. And it’s also a fantastic example of the American Dream, alive and well.”

In a recent Franchising USA issue, Feid wrote an inspiring story about Jeff Baker and his journey from the U.S. Air Force and his time in the Middle East to The Grounds Guys of El Dorado, Kansas. From his experience, the military and franchising are very similar in terms of service, values and trust.

And like Jeff’s duty to his country and now his duty to his business and his customers, all of us at BizCom enjoy a duty to share positive and encouraging news at every turn.
