Celebrating Veterans and 25th Anniversary of VetFran

As we recognize Veterans Day today and honor all those who serve our country, this year also marks the 25th anniversary of VetFran. This strategic initiative, founded by Dwyer Group, one of the world’s largest franchising companies of trade service brands, and overseen by the International Franchise Association today, has evolved into one of the most successful business initiatives for our military veterans. For the past 25-years, VetFran has helped thousands of veterans from across the country enter the franchising industry.

The program was started by the Dwyer Group’s late founder Don Dwyer Sr. as a pathway to business ownership and civilian life for military veterans. Dwyer, a veteran of the Air Force recognized the exemplary training of US military men and women as a great skill set to translate to franchised businesses. Both utilize leadership skills, hard work and the mindset to follow a proven system.

Through VetFran, returning veterans have an opportunity to educate themselves on the franchising industry and explore a wide range of franchise opportunities with incentives for veterans. The available resources and mentoring network has helped numerous veterans quickly transition from military life to the business world. And the mission continues.

The success of the program now includes more than 650 franchisors across the country that have helped more than 6,000 military veterans acquire a franchise business. As the United States continues its drawdown of troops stationed around the world, the International Franchise Association also predicts 3.1 percent growth in the franchising sector for 2016.

Dwyer Group, VetFran And BizCom Associates

As the PR agency for Dwyer Group, BizCom Associates also has been supporting the VetFran initiative for years and we work hard to get this program spotlighted in the news.

In a recent interview with @OurFranchise at the International Franchise Association, Mary Thompson, Chief Operating Officer of Franchise Brands for Dwyer Group, talked about her own transition from military to franchising. Mary served for eight years in the U.S. Marine Corps as a logistics officer and achieved the rank of captain. Mary discussed how she exited the military and found her place as franchise owner and then a multi-location franchise owner, and then a franchisor president and today the COO of Dwyer Group.

And Tariq Farid, the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Edible Arrangements International, shares a special message about veterans and how we can assist them when they return home.

Windsor Marketing Group is also recognizing veterans today as they announce the launch of a veteran hiring initiative, “Salute,” with the goal of hiring at least a dozen military veterans over the next twelve months.

Today, in celebration of Veterans Day, let us pause and salute all who have served and honor the tremendous sacrifices made my members of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families to preserve our freedom.
