BizCom clients made a lot of headlines in 2013. Of course it doesn’t hurt to have incredible stories like these. Here are some of our Top Stories of 2013:
Dina Dwyer-Owens is an Epic Boss

It was epic, alright. We thought it was a huge win when BizCom secured an episode of “Undercover Boss” on CBS with Dina Dwyer-Owens, CEO of The Dwyer Group, in 2012. Then CBS did one better and invited Dina back for the network’s first-ever “Undercover Boss: Epic Bosses” update in a season finale on 2013.
Wingstop surpasses 600 stores

They’re called “The Wing Experts” for a reason. This year, Wingstop surpassed 600 open locations, added Russia and Singapore to their map, and reached 10 consecutive years (that’s double digits, people!) in same store sales growth. The atomic sauce on those wings isn’t the only thing that’s hot. Named a Top 5 Growth Chain in America by Nation’s Restaurant News, it’s hard to top this incredible year. But just you wait! Can you say, 20th anniversary?
Corner Bakery Cafe posts record year for franchise expansion

Talk about a franchise opportunity that’s baked to perfection. Corner Bakery Cafe awarded franchise agreements for a record-breaking 120 new units in 2013. Throw in expansion to new states, an opening at the world’s busiest airport (Atlanta) that is also driving non-traditional growth, and doing amazing good deeds as a brand surpassing $1 million (yes, MILLION) in contributions to the No Kids Hungry campaign. This is a recipe that has the chain on track to double the size of its network in three to four years.
Dan Kim is the Digital Executive of the Year

How do you build a national and international chain without a big budget and make your brand a household name? Red Mango Founder Dan Kim has done it with fierce loyalty to the healthiest products in the business. Oh, and he also has about a gazillion followers on social media. Dan has taken an entrepreneurial idea for a frozen yogurt chain and turned it into a franchising powerhouse with more than 260 locations across the U.S., Mexico, Uruguay and El Salvador with an equally incredible fan base across the brand’s Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram and Vine handles. That got him nothing less than the restaurant industry’s Digital Executive of the Year Award in America. His cup swirleth over!
Vent-A-Hood celebrates 80th anniversary

Yep. It’s an incredible family-owned business. It’s a third-generation Made-In-The-USA sensation. And we couldn’t get enough of the flag-waving this year for Vent-A-Hood and the Woodall family. The company that made indoor residential range hoods a mainstay in the modern American home took magazine covers, made newspaper headlines and even celebrated the appointment of Vent-A-Hood CEO Skip Woodall to the National Kitchen and Bath Association’s Board of Directors. The Woodalls were even honored in the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year awards in Dallas. That calls for a family hug!
Founder of Edible Arrangements plans to hire 1,000 military veterans

It’s practically a made-for-TV movie! He immigrated to the U.S. as a boy. He pursued an entrepreneurial dream. And today Edible Arrangements is an international franchise with more than 1,100 locations. Only in America! Now this founder honors the country that supported his business idea by creating jobs for veterans who have protected the very freedom under which his dream came true.
Taco Cabana celebrates 35th anniversary

Okay. While we’re talking about anniversaries…this is the kind of PR you just eat up! …Everyone in Texas knows this Mexican Cafe chain. And guess what? So does Wall Street! Taco Cabana honored 35 years in business by restoring the look and feel of store #1 still in operation in San Antonio. It payed homage to the chain’s late Founder Felix Stehling. And today’s CEO Tim Taft, continues making headlines with a whopping 212% growth of parent-company Fiesta Restaurant Group’s stock. Gracias, Tim!
